Charles G. McDonald, 89, was called home to Jesus to join his wife and family in heaven on Thursday, May 10. A happy, fun loving jokester help describe this wonderful man of God from early childhood throughout his life. His children felt honored to call him Dad.
Born November 1, 1922 to Edgar & Flora (Allen) McDonald in Nebo, KY, “CG” served in the Army from 1943-1949. He received the World War 11 Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Evansville Purple Aces.
He met the love of his life, Gladys, at a tent revival. Together they sang with their children as a family. Charles and Gladys also sang with the Rich Quartet for several years.
THY GOOD & FAITHFULL SERVANT…As a faithful servant of God, for over 40 years, he was a Song Director & Deacon at Vann Ave Baptist, Community Baptist, Elberfeld First Baptist and Bethany Baptist Church. He currently served as Usher at Christian Fellowship Church which treated him as family. Gladys’s parents donated land to Vann Ave Baptist Church and Charles helped to build the church, both in construction and membership. As a very skilled carpenter, he helped construct and remodel many churches.
“Mac” worked at International Steel as a Supervisor for thirty years and was a Business Agent with Teamsters Local 215. While serving as Vice President, he retired from Teamsters after 13 years of service. He also served as past President of Teamsters Federal Credit Union and as Trustee for Ivy Tech Community College Region 12.
He will be remembered most for his sense of humor, ability to make you laugh with his jokes, his skill at woodworking, his love of working puzzles & playing solitaire on the computer, his amazing outlook on life and how he inspired his children, family, neighbors and friends.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 59 ½ years, Gladys; brothers, Ray, James & Clarence McDonald; sisters, Margie Watkins and Mae Garrett.
He is survived by five daughters and one son: Janet Kemp (Bill), Geneva Huebner (Roger), Cathy Huebner (Gary) , Rick McDonald (Debbie Heneisen), Tonya Rollins (Allen), Annette Wright (Mark); grandchildren: Bill Jr. Kemp (Amy), Scott Kemp; Roger Jr. Huebner (Julie), Kim Wingerter (Dion); Brian Huebner (Cara), Brad Huebner (Bethany); Allison, Ashley, Grant McDonald, Ryan, Markie Heneisen; Derek Rollins (fiancée Sarah), Kayla Neidig (Ryan), Tyler Rollins; Morgan, Merritt, Makenna Wright; great-grandchildren: Erin, Mac, Blake, David, Matthew Kemp, Mackenzie, Jordyn Bryant; Kiley, Brooke, Ryan Huebner, Kiersten, Briley, Keeley Wingerter; Tristan, Brycen, Aiden, Rylan, Hannah, Peyton Huebner; Rece Grisham;
great-great grandchildren: Keegan, Kiyonna, Keslee, Ian Jr., Hunter Kemp; brothers: Lee, San Antiono, TX, Billy, Stuart, FL; sister: Helen Harper, Greenville, KY; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rev. Jesse and Martha Hart, AJ and Wanita Hart, Frank Hart; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is very grateful to VNA for the love and humor they shared with him during his care, especially Deb and Dianna.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, May 14, 2012 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Niednagel and Rev. Danny Walker with burial at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
