

Charles Albert “Charlie” Manion, 87, of Evansville, IN, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Evansville, IN on October 4, 1930, to the late James and Mildred (Hartig) Manion.
Charlie was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Reitz Memorial High School and the Culver Military Academy's Naval School. Charlie developed a lifelong love for sailing during his summers at Culver which he continued through decades of sailing and piloting dozens of vessels in exotic locations. An entrepreneur, Charlie created and ran the House of Lighting and the Lamp Shoppe until his retirement in 1979. In the following years, Charlie enjoyed life traveling the world, sailing, golfing, bicycling, reading and playing backgammon and cards with friends. He was proud to be a Life Master Bridge player. Charlie was a devoted grandfather delighted by and proud of the character and achievements of his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine (Reynolds) Manion and brother, Jim Manion.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Becky (West) Manion; son, Tom Manion (Linda) and children, Charlie and Regina; daughter, Martha Mehringer (Joe) and children, Luke, Michael, Catherine and Anna; daughter, Sharon Trockman (Brett), and children Laura, Aaron and Ryan; son, A.J. Manion (Daria) and children, Reynolds, Isaac and Vika; Charlie’s sister, Mary Lou Gatens ; Becky’s daughter, Samantha Ramsey (John) and children Nicholas, Emma, Brady, and Chase.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Father Ted Temple, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
