

Charles “Charlie” Robert Appel, 80, passed away into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, May, 15, 2015. He was born October 8, 1934, in Evansville, IN to the late Albert G. and Nina (Lemmonson) Appel.
He attended F.J. Reitz High School and in 1952, joined the Navy where he served during the Korean War. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and bus driver for the bus ministry. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Local #20, N.R.A., and G.O.A. Charlie enjoyed being outdoors, especially in the woods. His hobbies included deer hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing and gardening.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Mabel Appel; sister, Ruth Steele; and brothers, Albert “Albie” and Paul.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen (Sanders) Appel; daughters, Tina (Ben) Guerrero of Red Oak, TX and Robin (Richard) Cain of Caryville, TN; son, Mike Appel of Corryton, TN; grandchildren, Amanda (Jeff) Potter, Nicolas and Gabriella Guerrero, and Emilee, Kristopher, and Andrew Appel; brother, George Appel of Evansville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Douglas Hatler and the nurses and staff at Deaconess VNA Hospice for their loving care, compassion and concern for our loved one and for the family.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Maurice Melton, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.
