Carolyn Susie Scoles

Susie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She was born August 7, 1938 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Hilliary and Catherine “Kate” Carr.

Susie was well known and loved by many, owning the beloved westside gem, Dogtown Tavern. Susie took over the reins from her parents in 1981. For 26 years Susie was known as the “Matriarch of Dogtown”. She loved to cook and she loved people. She never met a stranger. Susie cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Scoles; her son, Rick Nunning; her grandson, Jimmy Patton, and her brothers, Frank and Hilliary Dale.

Susie's surviving family include her daughter, Patti Steinkamp (Tim); son, Michael Nunning; grandchildren, Jamie Heinlin (Mike), Joshua Merritt (Tavishia), Jonathon Steinkamp (Lacey), Heather Nunning, Michael Nunning (Sarah), Lori Quijada (Ray), and Sam Nunning (Ashley); 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to It Takes A Village No-Kill Animal Rescue, Inc.

Friends may visit on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St., Evansville, IN.

Susie's funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Terry Gamblin.
