Carl graduated from New Berlin High School in Illinois and earned his Bachelor Degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland. He then attended communication school for AT&T at the University of Wisconsin and attended numerous schools in management, salesmanship and speaking. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and was stationed in Germany. During his service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, German Occupation Medal, National Defense Ribbon and Sharpshooters Medal. He was a member of the “Goodwill Ambassador” team in France and was selected as a member of the United States Air Force All Star Teams in baseball, basketball and football. Carl was a past member of the Indiana Air National Guard, 38th Aviation Co., where he served as Senior Air Traffic Advisor. He was also a past member of the 143rd Infantry Battalion and a recruiting officer for the Army. For 14 years, he worked as an Air Traffic Controller. He was a candidate for US Congress House of Representatives in 1984 and 1986 and served as coordinator for several senators and governors. He also served as Past Governor and was a member of Loyal Order of Moose and American Legion Post #497 in Indianapolis. Carl was a sponsor of the Boy Scout Explorer Troop and church youth group. He enjoyed basketball, Little League baseball, coaching football, reading, cooking, raising livestock, softball, bowling, remodeling, dancing and was lead vocalist in his church’s group and member of a singing quartet. He was an avid golfer, having played in many various Senior Series Golf tours.
Carl was preceded in death by his brother, Don Greening; and sister, Marilyn Standefer.
He is survived by his son, Corey Greening; daughter, Carla Greening; grandchildren, Kaitlin Fancher, Jenna Kayser (Matt) and Cyle Greening; great-grandchild, Aiden Kayser; and sister, Norma Wilcox.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM CST, at Camp Butler National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.
