Byron graduated from Jefferson Township High School. He received a Bachelor’s in Education, and Master’s of Business Administration from Ball State University, and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Southern Indiana. Byron taught school in Matthews, IN and Muncie, IN until he took a full-time position at Ball State. He had an early role founding USI. Byron retired in 1995 as Vice-President of Business Affairs at USI. His efforts with Indiana Legislature helped with passage of legislation giving ISUE independence to form USI.
Byron was an avid reader, jogger, and horseshoe player.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Pauline Wright, wife, Joyce Wright and wife, Joanne Wright; sister-in-law, Wanita Wright; and brother-in-law, Burl Carter.
He is survived by daughter, Leanna Goss (Jerry); son, Marvin Wright (Nancy); grandchildren, Josi Kauffman (Jesse), Lori Velazquez (Ivan), Courtney Wright, Matthew Wright (Kelsey), Noah Parson, Abbey Given (John); great-grandchildren, Rene, Isabelle and James Kauffman, Coen and Fletcher Wright, Sabrina Velazquez, Marlo Parson; stepchildren, Lisa Crist (Dave), Steve Tilmans (Maria) and Rochelle Tilmans, and grandchildren Maria, Ellie and Harrison Crist, Luke and Monica Tilmans, Ethan and Antonetta Tilmans; sisters, Carmen Taylor (Paul) and Carol Harbottle (John); brothers, Charles Wright and Ronnie Wright (Susan).
Funeral services were held 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
