Bonnie J. Markham, 56, of Newburgh, went to be with the Lord on June 8th from her Newburgh residence after a 14 year battle with breast cancer. She was born May 30, 1954 to Nathaniel and Barbara Lewis of Posey County.
Bonnie was a 1972 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. She enjoyed boating, travel and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Evansville.
She was co-owner and the Secretary/Treasurer of Southern Indiana Body Works, Inc. for the past 27 years. Bonnie was also co-owner of Tri State Utility Sales and Service, Inc. of 12 years.
Bonnie was previously very active with the White Shrine of Jerusalem where she served as the Worthy High Priestess, Robert Morris Order of the Eastern Star where she served as the Worthy Matron and the Daughters of the Nile, Isis Temple where she served as the Queen. She was actively involved with the Nile Egyptian Band and served as a past President.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Lewis and sister, Susan Gunter.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 27 years, Ronnie R. Markham; son, Randy Bigge; daughter, Sandra Goodman and husband, Rex; stepdaughter, Belinda Goodall and husband, Kevin; 7 wonderful grandchildren, Dakota, Savannah, Jade, Brandon, Rachel, Owen, and Ashley; father, Nathaniel Lewis and mother, Barbara Lewis; brother, Terry Lewis and wife, Janie; brother, David Lewis, PhD; sister, Diana Strader; sister, Linda Fieber and husband, Doug; and several nieces and nephews. Bonnie was very close to her husband’s family members: mother-in-law, Dora Markham; and sisters-in-law, Betty Phelps, Nancy Markham and Faye Holmes.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the compassionate care provided by the staff of Dr. Ahmed, the Deaconess-Chancellor Oncology Center and the Deaconess Hospice Group. They would also like to thank all of the friends and families that have sent flowers, cards and many prayers.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 12, at Alexander East Chapel with entombment at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 3-8 pm at the funeral home. There will be an Eastern Star walk through, a White Shrine walk through and a Daughters of the Nile Memorial Service on Friday evening starting at 6:00 PM.
