So sorry for your loss. Your mom was not only a wonderful teacher, but such a lovely person.  She will be missed.

David and John, I don't know you but I knew your mother. She was my Home Economics teacher at Scott School and my favorite teacher. I learned so much from her and I know that she thoroughly loved her job. My family also attended Centenary Church with her for many years. You have my heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your mother.

There will always be special memories of the  lady I first knew as a neighbor, my mom and dad's friend, Mrs. Richards, mother of David and Johnny,a teacher, then through 60 plus years she became "dear Betty"a special friend to me. I will always cherish her notes to me, her interest and love for my family, her faith and gratitude for her life and all those in it, and our special visits everytime I came back to Evansville. My heart hurts for all of us whose lives she touched, especially David and John.

Betty was Mrs. Richard's to me as one of her many students at Scott School.  She also was a faithful neighbor to my parents for many years.  A brief visit to the nursing home a couple months ago, brought back the memory of her sweet nature.  I loved her PA accent and gentle laugh. My sympathy to David and John and family.

My favorite teacher of all times.  She instilled in me the love of reading. In 5th and 6th grade, she had a contest for the most read books and I won both years.  As a reward, she took me to see the Sound of Music and to eat McDonald's.  In the 60's, that was quite exciting for a country girl.  I am still an avid reader. She was a wonderful teacher and a beautiful person. Always with a smile on her face. She will be missed by all that were lucky enough to know and love her.

Betty was my Mother's best friend, and the last person to whisper endearing thoughts into my mother's ears, moments before my Mother passed away. I also shared the blessing of being treated like a "daughter," by Betty and Dave and like a "sister," by her boys, David and Johnny...especially Johnny who makes me smile when he calls me "Sis." Our two families have been neighbors and friends since my birth, and even living out in what was considered "country," at the time, we were always just down the road and around the corner. In fact, to this day I can still sew with a sense of expertise due to Betty's patience in teaching me and instilling a love for sewing in 6th Grade "Home Ec." class.
It is these basic memories and all of the funny, quirky, sad and serious moments that Betty and I shared, that I will truly miss. She has always been like a second "Mom," to me and I am beautifully, bountifully blessed for having her gentle spirit in my life for so long, with the love, nurturing, humor,and education, she so generously shared.  
I know I am not the only one out there that feels this way. With tears in my eyes, gratitude and love in my heart, "I will miss you Mom." Pati B.
