Betty M. Mayes

Betty (Hironimus) Mayes, age 93, of Newburgh, IN passed away on November 6, 2022. Betty was born in Posey County on October 24, 1929 to the late Alvin and May (Allyn) Hironimus. She grew up on Evansville’s west side and graduated from Reitz High School in 1947. She married Paul Mayes on December 10, 1948 and they were married 35 years when he passed in 1983. Betty retired from Sears catalog department. Throughout her adult years, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, boating and spending time at Lake Barkley with family and friends. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mayes; son, Jeff Mayes; and brothers, Paul and Don Hironimus. Surviving Betty are her son, Mark (Eileen) Mayes of Newburgh IN; grandson, Jacob Mayes of Evansville, IN; two great grandchildren, Hadley and Owen Mayes; several nieces and nephews; and her canine companion Mandy. Per Betty’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private family funeral service will be held at Alexander Memorial Park with Fr. Ted Tempel officiating.
