Aubrey C. Cooke

Aubrey C. Cooke, 86, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013, at her home. She was born on March 29, 1927 in Springfield, Tennessee, to the late Aubrey S. and Louis Bridges Cortner.
Aubrey owned, with the late John Cooke, Cooke Chevrolet for 36 years. She was an active member of Christian Fellowship Church, where she belonged to the Wednesday Bible Study and helped with church bulletins on Fridays. Aubrey enjoyed ceramics, dominos, bridge, and reading. She loved animals and feeding her birds and squirrels in her backyard. She was a mentor, comforting many people.
Aubrey was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Martin Cooke, who died in 1991 and brother, Robert Stanley Cortner.
She is survived by her daughters, Catherine L. Brunton (Bill) of Newburgh, IN; M. Pamela Merritt (Jim) of Evansville, and Rebecca A. Craig (James) of Lafayette, TN; grandchildren, Amy Brunton, Robin Brenner, John Boggeman, Matt Brunton, Michael Gay, and Amelia Pinson; eight great grandchildren; and sister, Janelle O’Keeffe (David) of Colorado Springs, CO.
Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday August 13, 2013, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Ott, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
