Pearl M. Davenport joined her beloved husband, Edmond R. Davenport, Sr., on March 27, 2012 at the age of 100. She was born on November 9, 1911 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to William and Alice Scott.
At a very young age her family moved to San Diego, California, and shortly thereafter to Korbel. She graduated from Korbel Elementary School and attended Arcata High School. She met the love of her life while working at The Varsity Ice Cream Shop on the Plaza in Arcata, California. Ed and Pearl eloped to Grants Pass, Oregon in 1931 and were married for fifty-five years.
She and her husband started in their first business in 1937. They owned several businesses throughout the years, one of them being Rosewood Grocery Store where she was the postmaster as well as helping her husband run the store. Pearl, along with her husband, were charter members of the Humboldt County Horsemen's Association. Also, she was a member of the Lions Auxiliary and Eureka Womens' Club, President of the Emblem Club, received life membership of the Eureka Council of PTA and was a driving force for the formation of the Rosewood 4-H Club.
As a homemaker she was very talented in baking and sewing and for many years entered her projects at the Eureka Rodeo and Humboldt County Fair. In their retirement, Pearl and Ed enjoyed traveling and spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond, her grandson, Kyle Davenport; great-grandson Trevvor Davenport; siblings Elmer Scott, Lloyd Scott, Chloe Porter, and Grace DeBeni.
She is survived by her sons Ed and his wife, Eileen and Don and his wife, Jo Ann; grandchildren, Dennis and his wife Robin, Dean and his wife, Debbie, Keith and his wife, Betty, and Carrie Jones and her husband, Ben. She leaves behind ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 1 pm at Pierce Mortuary, 707 H Street, Eureka, California. Larry McCain of The Arcata Trinity Baptist Church will be the officiant.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make memorial contributions to Shriners' Children's Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817, or a favorite charity .
