There are many things I can do
to be a blessing for my family, friends and neighbors too.
My hours are precious and so few, they seem to fairly fly.
I'll plan to squeeze in time for others by and by.
As sure as the sun rises each day,
Today's the day --- I'll say a few kind words to the window next door.
Today's the day --- I'll help the hungry, the sick and the poor.
Today's the day --- I'll lighten someone's load.
Then as the day quickly passes and I've only taken time for me,
While in the garden and down on one knee,
It is very hasty prayer that is uttered there.
In answer to my prayer, a gentle, loving voice does say,
"Perhaps tomorrow, but surely not today."
Upon reflection of what my dear Lord did say,
I know that I must change my way.
To help make the world a better place
And be sure that I treat others with all due grace.
Today's the day--- I will be tender with young,
Compassionate with aged,
Sympathetic with the striving
And tolerant with the weak and strong.
Please Lord, grant my deepest desires as I pray,
Help me to make --- today the day.
