Renate Munoz, 85, of Escondido, California, passed away on June 30, 2023. She was the spouse of Pete T. Munoz of Escondido where they have lived as of 1999 and having moved from Northridge, CA that year.
She was born in 1938 in Essen, Germany and grew up there until she met her U.S. Air Force husband and later moved to Shreveport, LA. Following a change of station to the Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA, her love of her life was killed in an airplane crash and was left to raise a young son with the help of friends and acquaintances with her family in Germany.
She attended a local beauty school and eventually opened and operated her own business. Years later, she moved to the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, CA where she continued her business.
She remarried in 1982 to her current husband in a formal ceremony aboard the ship "Princess Louise" which was docked in the San Pedro, CA. harbour at the time.
She and her husband made their home in the Porter Ranch area of Northridge, CA. and survived the Granada Hills, CA. fire, the Northridge, CA. earthquake, and other natural disasters which prompted their move to San Diego County near their timeshare at the Lawrence Welks Resort north of Escondido.
Renate and her husband enjoyed attending jazz festivals around southern California and festivals aboard cruising ships while members of the San Diego Jazz Society. She enjoyed attending functions with her husband and friends at the American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Elks, Escondido. She had been an avid golf player and was a member of the local fitness and sports clubs in Northridge and San Diego area, until she could no longer continue due to severe spinal stenosis, and having to endure many back surgeries. It was very difficult for her to earn that her lasting pain was due to mesothelioma cancer in her lungs.
Renate loved life, enjoyed helping others she could, and took great enjoyment in her family, community, and her nail parlor. Her thoughtfulness was apparent to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of forty-one years, Pete Munoz, her son John Canty, step-daughter Lisa Munoz, grandson Logan Abel, grand-daughter Jamie Listman (Chad), Dayma Arietta (Daniel), great-grandsons, Makoa, Kanalu, Maki Listman, and great-grand daughter Kora Arietta.
