Maria Elena Lemus

Maria Elena was born on November 18, 1940 in Mexico City, Mexico, the only daughter to the late Salvador Huerta and Concepcion Magallanes, of Morelia, Michoacan. After losing her father at a young age, Maria Elena was separated from her mother who was forced to immigrate to the United States to work and to leave Maria Elena to be raised by her grandmother in Mexicali, and finally Tijuana, Mexico, where they were able to move closer to Maria Elena’s mother in San Diego, CA.

Maria Elena met Roberto Lemus, of Leon, Mexico, in September 1957, in Tijuana, Mexico. The couple married a year later in November 1958, and began a 63 year long love story. Maria and Roberto eventually immigrated to the United States and settled in Escondido where they raised their four children. Maria Elena ruled over a house full of food and family and love. Besides enjoying her children and grandchildren, Maria Elena enjoyed travel with her husband, gardening, and her daily trip to the gym. She was a devout Catholic and member of the Church of the Resurrection in Escondido, CA.

Maria Elena was a beloved wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Roberto Lemus of Escondido, and surviving children, Robert Lemus of Seattle, WA, Alex Lemus of San Diego, CA, Laura Lemus of San Diego, CA, and Albert Lemus of Pasadena, CA. Maria Elena was a proud grandmother to eight grandsons and one granddaughter. Robert Russell Lemus, Emilio Esteban Lemus, and Dominique Andres Lemus, sons of Robert Lemus and his wife Monica Ann Lemus; Daniel Alejandro Lemus and Gabriel Alberto Lemus, sons of Alex Lemus and his wife Sylvia Ramirez; Jose Zimmerman and Michael Isaac Zimmerman Lemus, sons of Laura Lemus, and Sara Elizabeth Lemus and Eric Andrew Lemus, children of Albert Lemus.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McLeod Mortuary in Escondido, CA.
