William S. (Bill) Arway passed away quietly on November 16, 2024, at the age of 98. Bill was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, on October 31, 1926, to Stephen and Anna (Palko) Arway. He was always a New Jersey resident before retiring to Florida in the 1980s and eventually settling in Englewood. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Charlotte (Webb) Arway, by his second wife Mary (Kutka) Arway whom he met several years after Charlotte’s passing, and by his step daughter Kathleen Hayden.
Bill is survived by his niece Gayle Bellafiore, nephews Richard and Thomas Webb, his stepchildren Chris and Jim Kutka, his dear friend Jacqueline Osborn, and by members of the Catanzaro and Chirip families who were his long time neighbors and close friends.
Bill was a veteran of World War II who left high school in the middle of his senior year to enlist in the Army Air Corps. Following the war, Bill returned to New Jersey to complete his high school degree, obtain a bachelors degree at Rutgers University and begin a long career as a coach, teacher and administrator at Dover High School. During his 30 year coaching career one of his highlights was serving as head coach of a state championship football team.
Bill’s life will be celebrated at a Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church near Englewood, Florida, at 9:30am on Monday, December 16, 2024, followed by interment of his ashes in the parish Memorial Garden. The address of the church is 5265 Placida Road, Grove City, Florida 34224. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis of Assisi parish.
