Jim was born in Flint, Michigan, to Burton and Nellie Traver on November 7, 1941. He attended Lakeville Memorial High School and graduated in 1959. Jim worked for the State of Michigan hospital for disabled children, a job of which he often spoke fondly but then transitioned to a position with the General Motors parts plant in Pontiac, retiring with 30 years of service.
He loved living on the beach and enjoyed all things beach related: walking, shelling, and building sand castles with his grandchildren and great grandchild. He loved reading, cooking, and taking multiple cruises in his lifetime.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Budwea of Englewood, FL; daughter Terese Hoffman (Kurt) of Venice, FL; grandchild Tyler Hoffman (Sahori) of Venice, FL; great-grandchild Atlas Hoffman of Venice, FL; niece Audra Nichols (Tiffany McKenzie); and nephew Chris Nichols (Cassidy). Jim is also survived by his sister Jan Carter (Mike) of North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Nellie, and brother, Dick Traver.
Jim’s wish was to be remembered fondly and celebrated privately on the beach with family.
Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
