Dave was born in Atlanta, Georgia to James David Tidwell Sr. and Irma Lucille Tidwell on 2/27/1946. He went to high school at Waggener High School in Louisville, KY and graduated in 1964. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Louisville in 1968. At UofL he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Immediately after college he enlisted in the US Army and became a 1st Lieutenant serving 3 years primarily in West Berlin. While there he developed a love of German culture and language which lasted the rest of his life. He would visit the country several times over the years.
After the Army Dave would go on to work a brief stint as a bank employee before going to work for Chevrolet. He worked various sales/marketing management roles at Chevrolet and later General Motors for over 31 years. After a work transfer brought him to Detroit, MI he took up sailing on Lake Erie and enjoyed boating life on the weekends. He and his family enjoyed sail boating for many years.
David is survived by his wife of 54 years Sharyn Gillis Tidwell; son James David Tidwell III of Port Charlotte; son Jeffrey Bertron Tidwell and his fiancé Clarissa Ann Gayle along with their children Emerson McKenzie Gayle and Savannah Joan Gayle all of Naples, Florida. He is also survived by his younger brother Dean Charles Tidwell and his wife June Tidwell of Port Charlotte, Florida.
Dave lived his life as a permanent traveler; he always wanted to see what was over the next hill. A memorial service is to be announced later.
