Helen L. (Petka) Lennon, 92, of South Grafton, Mass., formerly of Sutton, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Port Charlotte Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Helen was born in Whitinsville, MA to her parents Joseph and Stephanie Petka and married John Lennon of Northbridge, MA in 1949. The couple were married for 61 years before his passing in 2011.
She leaves her daughter, Karen H. Mahoney and her husband Frank Mahoney of Port Charlotte, FL, granddaughter Tracy K. Gosselin and her husband John Parker of Carrboro, NC and her grandson Jamison J. Gosselin and his partner Scott Kraft of Vancouver, WA and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Helen was a stitcher and seamstress for more than 30 years in Worcester, MA. After retiring, she continued to work part time – her favorite being Sbarro’s on the Mass Pike where she loved talking with customers passing through all day long. She and her husband moved from Sutton to South Grafton to live at Green Acres Seniors apartments.
Helen was an avid golfer and enjoyed evenings at the Polish Club dancing to the polka. She loved to travel around New England with her husband and grandchildren. Helen also enjoyed greyhound dog races.
Helen’s family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Blackstone Health and Rehabilitation in Whitinsville, Truewood Assisted Living of Port Charlotte and Port Charlotte Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. A service and celebration of life are being planned for her interment with her husband for a later date.
