Scott Harris Bloom born October 18 1961 passed away on October 1 2023 from pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Stephanie, his beautiful children Jessica, Miriam and Nathaniel, his brothers Jeff and Kenny and his parents Sheila and Frank. Scott graduated from Caltech with a BS in Physics and then went on to earn his PhD from Tufts University and later his MBA from UCLA. He was well-respected in his field of laser communications and considered by his colleagues as creative and passionate about his work. Scott's boss had this to say about him, " The breadth of the work that Scott contributed to, the fundamental physics that informed his thinking, and his pragmatic engineering abilities inspired many others in the company. Much more than that, Scott was a wonderful person to work with because of his thoughtfulness, good humor, and optimistic nature." He was more than just a colleague but a friend to all who worked with him. Scott's greatest achievement and joy in life was his family. He was a quiet man who chose his friends with great care and devoted most of his time to his wife and his three kids. He could be found cheering from the sidelines of every sports contest, riding bikes, running and hiking with his family. He also imparted his love of learning and science to his kids through homework help, trips to the science museum, and his passion for his own work. He was always available for support and mentorship no matter when or what they needed. With such a positive presence, Scott will be missed. If you would like to show your support, please donate to either PANCAN, the pancreatic cancer society to help others who are going through the same struggle as Scott, or the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, as he loved all the canine family members he had over the years.
