Nicholas Patrick Scallon March 17, 1926 – August 12th, 2022, of Rancho Santa Fe, CA passed away peacefully in his home on August 12th, 2022. Nicholas was born March 17th on St. Patrick’s Day, 1926 in Ackley, Iowa, the eighth youngest child of William Simeon Scallon and Laura Viola Steffen. During high school, Nick excelled in athletics and was proud of being the captain of both the football team and basketball team. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army and was selected for the Army Air Forces after testing and training. Nick enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa to continue his education. He graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering. While studying, Nick found the "love of his life," Alene Meis. Alene and Nick were married on April 17,1950 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa and enjoyed a wonderful marriage. They settled in Marshalltown, Iowa where Nick began working for Fisher Controls Incorporated, and they started to raise their family of six children. Nick was an active member of his church where he helped organize the formation of the
Lenahan Catholic High School while serving on the school board. During his career, he was instrumental in the development of the Vee-Ball Valve and E-Body, a simple idea that was critical in the flow of liquids in pipes. Nick earned various promotions during his career as well as completing the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. Eventually he became the Vice President of Marketing. Later, Nick's career opened an opportunity to create his own agency, Scallon Controls Incorporated in Beaumont, Texas, and the family moved. At retirement, they moved to San Diego, California to enjoy the weather, sunsets, and the ocean. Nick had a positive outlook and good nature, enjoyed his friends, was a keen card player and avid golfer. Nick was passionate about wagering on collegiate and professional sports and betting on the ponies at the Del Mar Horse Track every season. Nick was someone to look up and emulate for his children and his grandchildren. He loved his family and cherished his deep faith in God. Nick is preceded in death by his wife (Alene) daughters (Linda Rukavina and Maureen Harrington) grandson (Dr. Mark Tim Rukavina (Sheri) great grandson (Mark Richard Rukavina) survived by daughter Shaune Cathcart (Rick), son Mark Scallon, son Michael Scallon (Mary), daughter Kelly Broderick (Steve) and two sons-in- laws, Dr. Mark W. Rukavina and Brian Harrington, twelve grandchildren - six great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Mary Meis.
