On May 8, 2015, following a very brief illness, Lorraine Weldon Schneider of Oceanside, California, passed away at 89 years of age. On June 8, 1925, Lorraine was born in Los Angeles, California, to William Weldon and Myrtle (Friedrichs) Weldon, the fourth child and first daughter of eight living children. Her mother passed away shortly after delivering her ninth baby still-born, when Lorraine was just nine years old. Lorraine grew up in Los Angeles, graduating from Franklin High School in the Highland Park neighborhood. She worked for many years as a bank executive, eventually retiring as Vice President at Security Pacific National Bank. She was an honorary life member of the Montebello Women’s Club, and past president of the East Los Angeles Business and Professional Women’s Club. Lorraine was an artist, a painter, a book-lover, and a gardener. She walked most days, volunteered at a book store for many years, and greatly appreciated her quiet prayer time at home. She also crocheted and knitted, making beautiful items – often without any pattern – with which she frequently gifted her friends and family. She also hand-made numerous blankets for critically ill children, as part of Project Linus. A box full of colorful yarns for projects on which she was currently working was always nearby. She enthusiastically supported Special Olympics and followed their activities, and she was a long-time member of the Friends of the Library. Always independent, she remained a daily driver, happily renewing her license in recent years. With every card and letter she sent, Lorraine assured her family they were forever in her prayers. After her passing, a written prayer list of each member of her family, as well as her special friends, was found within the well-worn pages of her Bible. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, seven of her siblings, one nephew, and one niece. She is survived by her youngest sister, Nell Wenger, of Cypress, California. Although she never had children of her own, Lorraine is lovingly remembered and survived by numerous nieces and nephews. At the request of the family, the memorial service will be private.
