Carol S. Burnett (nee Scholl), age 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Solana Beach, CA, on Sunday, September 27, 2015, in the company of her children. Carol was born in Chicago, IL, at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital on May 15, 1943. She was the second of six children born to Rosemary Scholl (nee Howard) and Charles F. Scholl. Carol’s early education was at St. Hilary School in Chicago, IL, and later at St. Francis Xavier School in Wilmette, IL. Carol graduated from Marywood High School in Evanston, IL, in 1961, and obtained her B.S. degree in Sociology from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, in 1965. It was there that she met John R. Burnett of Bellevue, NE, whom she married on June 11, 1966, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Wilmette, IL. Carol worked at Boys Town in Omaha, NE, while John attended medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical School. After the birth of their first child, Theresa, Carol devoted her time and energy to rearing their children and managing their home. Carol and John and their growing family lived in Nebraska, New Jersey, Florida, and Maryland prior to making their home in San Diego. They initially moved to the Clairemont neighborhood in 1972 while John completed his residency at Balboa Naval Hospital. They moved to their home in Solana Beach in 1976 where Carol lived to the time of her death. Carol was a very active woman. When not spending time with family, Carol and John were often traveling worldwide to explore both natural and historic sites. Her most recent overseas trip included a visit to Italy, followed by Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, which she had been very excited to visit. She was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. It was very important to her to have her family near and together, especially for holidays and birthdays. Carol was an excellent cook as well as a gracious host, and her home became the center of many memorable family celebrations. Carol believed in the importance of giving back to her community. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church for the past 39 years. She enjoyed working in the parish office and volunteering her time with the Mission Circle, assisting in the church office as well as helping collect and other groceries for distribution to those in need. The past few years she also volunteered at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas as part of the Sunshine team. Carol is preceded in death by John R. Burnett, M.D, her husband of 46 years, her mother Rosemary Scholl, and her father, Charles F. Scholl. She is survived by her children Theresa A. Burnett, Ph.D. (Brian Marks Ph.D.), Robert C.
