Steven E Whidden

Steven E. Whidden, 68, a life long resident of Palmetto and Parrish, FL passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019. He was standing straighter and walking taller than any time in the last 65 years. Born August 19,1950 to Finis E, Jr and Wilma M. Whidden (deceased), Steve contracted the polio virus at age 3. He blessed us with his presence defying all odds, until God decided he needed a new smile in Heaven. Steve leaves behind a brother, Dan, and wife, Chelli; a niece, Shea and Cody Giltner and their daughter, Kinley; a niece, Whitney and Cody Barrs and their son, Raylan; and nephew Ryan and Ashley Whidden and their son, Elam; special friends Gary and Sara Hornsby, his cousin (LEO, OLE, JR), his long time care giver Manuela Etienne, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Steve, also known as ``Fox" or "Foxy" was a true southern gentleman, a friend to all and a stranger to none. He enjoyed music, people, racing, painting, wine making and his family. Steve named one of his early cars '`The Foxy Lady" after the Jimi Hendrix song and the name stuck with him. People recognized him by that name and by the infectious smile he seemed to always carry with him. Ravaged by disease and crippled even more by Post-Polio Syndrome, he never lost his zest for life. He left us only when his body quit, not his spirit. A Celebration of Life service for Fox will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, February 2 at the Parrish Methodist Church Historic Chapel located at 12140 69th St, East Parrish, Florida. Hawaiian shirts and board shorts are encouraged (weather permitting). Those wishing to say a few words are encouraged to do so. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Steve's name to Shriners Hospital For Children in Tampa Florida. Steve was always thankful for the assistance his family received from the Shriners in their efforts to help children with disabilities.
