On Sunday, August 8, 2021, Shirley Ann Baxter Winders, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandma and Great-Grandma, went home to be with her Lord and savior at the age of 78. Shirley was born on November 12, 1942, in Bloomington, IN to Donald and Opal (Stephens) Baxter. She graduated from Ellettsville High School in 1961. On August 5, 1966, she married Frederick O. Winders Jr. They raised two sons Aaron and Brian and a daughter Alisa.
Shirley had a servant’s heart her entire life. She was deeply active in her churches where she taught Sunday School, Youth Groups, Young girls, Woman’s Ministries for many years as well as Vacation Bible School. Shirley had a passion for quilting, sewing, oil painting, crafting and genealogy. She loved sewing and quilting for her kids and grandkids. Shirley was a published Author; she overcame many health issues and hurdles to successfully succeeded in finishing her book “A Child, A Servant, A King” that she wanted to leave to her kids and grandkids as her legacy. Family meant everything to her, she loved researching her ancestors and learning about who they were and their legacy. In her time of her research of her ancestors she also wrote a book “John L. Stephens Ancestors & Descendants 1690 – 2006 plus Family Recipes” for her family and future descendants. Shirley will be deeply missed, however, the seeds she sowed over the years will continue to bloom in the many people she touched.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father and mother, Donald L & Opal L Baxter, one brother Rockie K Baxter. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Frederick O Winders Jr. and her three children, Aaron J Winders (Laura) of Bradenton, FL, Brian L Winders of Parrish, FL, Alisa R Winders Smith (James) of Ellettsville, IN, two brothers Randie L Baxter, Roger L Baxter, two sisters Sherry L Baxter Mobley, Shanta L Baxter all from Spencer, IN. Grandchildren, Kim (Ryan) Reynold, Macala J Winders and fiancé Matt Heller, Jared D Winders, Hayley A Winders, Riley J Smith, Bailey A Smith, Great-Grandchildren Robby Reynolds and Carolyn Reynolds, several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL 34222 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021, at Sun City Christian Center, 17566 S US Highway 301, Wimauma, FL 33598 at 11:00 AM with a viewing prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM.
