She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Tucker, in 1988.
Shirley was born in St. Ignace, Michigan, she came to Bradenton from St. James, Missouri, in 1978. As a social worker during the Korean War, she served in the USAF, then with the American Red Cross in military hospitals in San Diego, CA, Manila, PI, Wiesbaden, Germany, and Verdun, France, on return, at Boys Town of Missouri and finally, HRS of Manatee County.
She volunteered as a tutor for Manatee Technical Institute and Literary Council, also for a period the Honor Guard with the American Legion. She had been a resident at Westminister Manor since January, 2010. She was also a member at Whitfield Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include son, Bryan Tucker, of Huntington Beach, CA; Step-daughter, Karen Krueger, of Cibolo, TX; stepson, Douglas Tucker, of Waldorf, MD; and brother, Jack Sprague, of Rockville, MD.
The family will receive friends from 3-4pm on Tuesday Oct 6, at Groover Funeral Home, in Ellenton, FL. A funeral service will follow at 4pm at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors by American Legion Kirby Stewart Post 24, will take place in Mansion Memorial Park.
