Sharon Ann Williams 75 went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 21, 2021, from complications associated with Alzheimer’s Disease. Sharon was predeceased by her husband Ted A. Williams, her parents Albert and Mable Gay, her brother and sister-in-law Jack and Jeanette Gay, and her brother-in-law Royce Williams. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Sharyl A. Williams-Bandy and her husband Robert Bandy (Woodstock, Georgia), her son Andy Williams and his wife Abigail (Bradenton, FL), three grandchildren, sister-in-law Gwendolyn Mimbs, along with many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Sharon grew up in Largo, FL on her family’s dairy farm. She attended Mildred Helms Elementary School and graduated from Largo High School in 1964. She worked for the Town of Belleair until her marriage and move to Palmetto. As a newlywed, she worked at Manatee Memorial Hospital until she and Ted temporarily moved to Gainesville while he pursued his master’s degree at the University of Florida. While in Gainesville, Sharon was employed by the Florida Farm Bureau Federation. While her children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom, involved in PTA and her children's activities. Upon her return to Manatee County, Sharon went back to work for the Pittsburgh Pirates at Pirate City during Spring Training season and then at Singletary Concrete Company. She later worked in the Recording Section of the Manatee Clerk of Courts Office where she retired after 20 years of service. Throughout her life she was active in her Church. As a teen and young adult, she played piano at Haines Road Baptist Church in Largo. She sang in the choir, served as a Sunday School teacher and loved working with Children in other capacities like Girls in Action (GA’s) and Sunbeam’s at First Baptist of Gillette and at Palm View First Baptist. She frequently visited shut-ins and served on mission teams that conducted worship services in local nursing homes. She was a member of the Palmetto Woman’s Club, and her hobbies were sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and serving others. She loved following her grandchildren’s sporting events and school programs, travel, and spending time with her family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27 from 6-8 pm at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Avenue East, Ellenton, FL. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Palm View First Baptist Church in Palmetto. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Palm View First Baptist Church, 415 49th Street East, Palmetto, FL 34221, or North River Care at 1003 10th Ave W, Palmetto, FL 34221. Burial will be at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto.
