Roland A. Gagne, 80, of Parrish, Florida and Wells, Maine, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023, at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer with his wife, Patricia, and sister, Lorraine, at his side.
Roland was born in Fitchburg, MA, September 5, 1942, one of three children born to Armand and Grace (Infantino) Gagne.
He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1960.
He leaves his wife of 34 years, Patricia (Belliveau) Gagne, his daughters, Pamela Wockefuss and Sherri Gaudet both of Leominster, MA, his three stepchildren, Robert Godin of Nashua, NH, Michelle Hudson of Leominster, MA and David Godin of Syracuse, NY. One sister, Lorraine (Suzie) (Gagne) Cormier of Fithburg, MA. Eight grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren, a nephew, Patrick Cormier and Niece Jennifer Santos.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Raymond.
For approximately 60 years he was a meat cutter retiring in 2021.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Leominster MA and St. Mary's Church in Palmetto, FL and attended St. David's Episcopal Church in Kennebunk ME. Serving special and monthly dinners at St. Marys, he even has a "Cafe Rollie" named after him.
During the summer he served more than a 100 people every year, making his famous Italian dinner at St. David's. While living in Fitchburg he also volunteered his time to cook for the Beacon of Hope in Leominster, MA
He very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, loved bowling, golfing, traveling, playing cards, he had a great talent for singing, was a member of "Happy Notes" In Colony Cove in Ellenton, and the "Veranda Voices" in Veranda Springs where he resided.
He also loved to garden and had a garden in Maine that would make people stop and admire his beautiful work and gorgeous flowers.
As his daughter, Sherri, lovingly wrote a letter to her dad and ended with "when you smell a flower remember Roland's name and how he loved their beauty for true beauty never fades".
He will be remembered for his compassion, kindness, selflessness, love of God, helping the needy and less fortunate, and his wonderful sense of humor.
A funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1010 24th Ave West, Palmetto, FL on Monday, March 27th at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date at St. David's Episcopal Church in Kennebunk, ME.
