Richard F. Mattie joined his other beloved family members in Heaven on July 27, 2018. He entered this world on September 16, 1924 in Racine Wisconsin to Fred and Lucy (Snider) Mattie. After serving in WWII on a submarine as a torpedo man on Cobia 245 in the South Pacific, he returned home and married Bette Hendrickson and raised six children. Dick worked as a Supervisor of Maintenance for 29 years at the Racine Unified School District retiring in 1986. It was then that he moved to Palmetto, Florida with his current wife Beverly. Dick had a great love of working with wood; his latest project was building Military Statues which he enjoyed giving to Veterans. Dick is preceded in death by his former wife Bette, son Richard Mattie II, step son Dan Domke, step daughter Tami Young, sister Marie Czeh, and sister in law Shirley Mattie. He is survived by one brother Eugene Mattie of Racine and by his children Geri Larsen, Joe (Linda) Mattie, Konnie (Jeff Clazmer), Michele Mattie, Darcy (Billy Slaastad), daughter in law Jan, step children Terri Appel and Duane Domke Jr as well as 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and two special grand daughters, Lensey and Leslie Domke that lived and helped take care of Dick and Bev. Any contributions can be made to Tidewell Hospice in Ellenton or to the Family of God UMC. The Celebration of Life will take place at the Family of God UMC on Saturday, August 4th at 2:00.
