John "Larry" Funderburk, 73 passed away on April 23, 2015. He was born on January 12, 1942, raised in Bradenton, FL by his parents, John Henry Funderburk and Jewel Marie Simpson-Funderburk (now deceased). Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Lozinski-Funderburk. Larry graduated from Manatee High School and immediately entered the United States Army and became an Expert Marksman. He spent most of his military career in Korea. While stationed in Plainville, Connecticut he met his soul-mate Pat and married her in 1962. While in CT Larry worked at New Departure Plant Division of General Motors. After having 3 daughters they decided to make the move back to Larry's hometown of Bradenton, FL where Larry worked for Bayshore condominiums in many different roles. He eventually opened his own landscaping and irrigation business but after many years decided to go back to school and became a Manatee County Sheriff's Officer. Larry retired after more than 25 years of service. Larry was a board member of the Manatee County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 70. Those that had the pleasure to know Larry would tell you he was known for his endless stories, wisdom, sense of humor, but most of all his one liners! He was truly a man among men. Larry would be the first to tell you his number one accomplishment was his family. He was a family man first and foremost. Larry is survived by his 3 daughters, Donna Funderburk-Brewbaker, her husband Jim Brewbaker, Cheryl Funderburk and Kristen Funderburk. His 6 grandchildren, Megan Brewbaker-Southwick, her husband Michael Southwick, Alyssa Brewbaker, Danielle Ostwald, Allie Johnson, Alex Johnson and Alan Johnson. His first great-grandson, Morgan Patrick Southwick. His sisters, Helen Robinson, Joyce Horton, her husband Bill Horton, Marilyn Betts and brother Lamar Funderburk and wife Audrey Funderburk. Visitation and Service will be on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400-36th Ave. E. (Ellenton-Gillette Road), Ellenton, FL. A celebration of life will be held directly after the service at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, 1825-11th St. W., Bradenton, FL. In lieu of flowers donations to the FOP, Lodge 70 made in his name would be appreciated.
