Jerry Lee Smith of Palmetto, FL passed away 20 January 2022 peacefully at Tidewell Hospice House in Lakewood Ranch, FL. Born 30 April 1936 in Peerless, IN. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Olevia Jeanette Smith (Compton), daughter Angela (Patrick) Mauk, grandchildren Brooke Tyquiengco, Brendon Tyquiengco and Madeline Mauk. Nieces, Belinda (Rick) Pflueger, Megan (Luis) Ramos and nephew Roger (Maddie) Pedersen. He was a kind man, a devoted Christian with a wonderful sense of humor, who loved his family with all of his heart. He was the touchstone of the family and will be missed dearly. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Della Smith (Pruitt), sister Phyllis Robertson, and brother James Smith . Jerry was drafted into the Army during wartime after graduating from Needmore High School and soon after began to work for the Federal Government. He retired after 30 years then moved from Indianapolis, IN to Palmetto, FL where he became a Walmart Greeter and touched the lives of so many. He loved sports, spending time with his family, walks on the beach, and traveling. Jerry will especially be remembered for how he loved to laugh. For the sweet, wonderful and kind man who always made those around him feel cared for. He will remain in our hearts forever. So many cherished memories. We now have a guardian Angel.
Funeral will be held Thursday, 3 February 2022 at the Sarasota National Cemetery at 9:30am.
