James E. Long, III (Jim) age 73, met his Savior the afternoon of August 13th, 2023. After struggling with several illnesses in the last few years, he passed away from cardiac arrest. Born on April 25, 1950, he loved life, travel and cooking. He is survived by his wonderful wife, Marilou Hage Long, who has been a huge support for over 44 years. His daughter, Melanie (Ray) living in Philadelphia, PA, and Megan (Adam) living in Kailua, HI, were the loves of his life. Megan and Adam have two grandchildren, Levi James and Amos Brock. Jim was the son of the late James E. Long, Jr. and Merrian Stamp Long. He grew up in Waterloo, NY, and graduated from Houghton College with a BS in elementary education in 1974. He served as a Youth Pastor in Dearborn, MI, during which time he met his wife. They married in 1979. He also graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary in 1983 with an MDiv degree. In 1983, he and his young family joined ABWE and moved to Bangladesh in 1985. He and Marilou retired from that organization in August 2018 after an exciting and illustrious missionary career and lived in Lewisberry, PA, until 2021. He was a member of the Church of the Open Door in East York, PA, and served as a small group leader. In 2021 Jim and Marilou moved to Bradenton, FL, which offered sunshine and fellowship with wonderful friends at their new home in il Villaggio. He is also survived by sisters, Susan (Curtis), Robin (Dan) and Heather (Don). His sister, Holly (Dan) preceded him in death in May 2019. He left behind two nieces, Bethany (Damon) and Stacey (Jim) who blessed him with Ava, Mallie, Danny and Sammy. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be sent to William Carey Academy in Chattogram, Bangladesh, through ABWE, PO Box 8585, Harrisburg, PA, 17105. There will be a celebration of life service at il Villaggio, Rossi Center, 1200 Aurora Blvd., Bradenton, FL, on Saturday, August 19th at 11am. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh, his love for cooking, being a Statesman in South Asia, and as a follower of Jesus Christ.
