Clarence Lloyd Helgeson, 97, of Ellensburg, Washington, passed away on February 18, 2016 peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Clarence, commonly known as “Helgy” was born in Omak, Washington on January 15, 1919. He graduated from Ellensburg High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science degree at Washington State University School of Pharmacy.
Clarence was married to Marjory Helgeson (Mills) on February 5, 1942 in Coeur D Alene, Idaho; they were married for 74 years.
Clarence started his career in Pharmacy in La Crosse, Washington before being called into service in the US Navy in World War 2. Upon release from the Navy they returned to Ellensburg and he went to work for Ostrander Drug. He was called again into service for the Navy during the Korean War. On returning back to Ellensburg Clarence went back to work at Ostrander’s Drug and in 1955 purchased the store. He owned and operated the store until his retirement at the age of 72.
Clarence and Marjory spent many years enjoying their cabin at Lake Cle Elum. His hobbies included bowling, boating and snowmobiling. Many years were spent traveling in their motor home. Clarence was a dedicated member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion for more than 55 years.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Maude Helgeson. His is survived by his wife Marjory, his two children, Patricia L. (Tom) Whiteside, Clifford L. (Maureen) Helgeson, his three grandsons, Mike (Michelle) Helgeson, Clint (Mickey) Whiteside and Scott (Lisa) Helgeson and two great grandsons, Bryce and Brady Helgeson.
At his request there will be no services.
