Bill was born the youngest of three children to Ole and Ruth Schmidt in Hyattsville, MD on March 8, 1955. He worked in the photo production business for over 40 years, where he was able to express his passion for both helping people and his love for photography.
Bill was an avid lover of photography! Whether it was taking pictures of the family or beautiful landscapes. His forte was taking pictures of the grandchildren, and everyone knew when “Poppy” pulled out the camera it was time to pose and smile. Additionally, he shared a great fondness, with his wife, for Deep Creek Lake and Swallow Falls where they owned a quaint cabin in the woods. He enjoyed time in his favorite rocking chair on the porch, watching the plethora of hummingbirds, deer, and bears. Along with family time, driving the boat along the Deep Creek Lake. He captured all that he could behind the lens of his camera.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister Karen.
Bill wore many titles: husband, dad, brother, son, friend, and most importantly Poppy. He took the title of Poppy proudly and didn’t disappoint. His grandchildren knew they were loved, cherished, and most prominently spoiled. He was above all else a kind and compasionate family man.
He was survived by his wife, Hazel Schmidt, his children Angela, Stephen, Karl, and Caitlin, his grandchildren Maddison, Noah, Bella, Emily, Gavin, and Hadleigh.
Services for Bill will be private.
