William Russell Hegarty, a devoted husband, father, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully at his home in Severn, Maryland on October 8, 2024.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to the late Reginald Beaton Hegarty and Georgiana Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Burr Hegarty. Bill grew up in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. He proudly served in the U.S. Army's Army Security Agency (ASA), with postings in Korea and Fort Meade, Maryland. Following his military service, Bill embarked on an illustrious 45+ year career at the National Security Agency (NSA) at Fort Meade, Maryland. His tireless commitment earned him numerous awards and commendations.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill cherished his hobbies, including gardening, golfing, camping, stamp collecting, coin collecting and cruising. His 50+ year passion for genealogy connected him to a rich heritage and membership in the Mayflower Society. He was an active member of the Glen Burnie Elks, the Glen Burnie Moose and Boy Scout Troop 857.
Bill is survived by his Loving Wife of 50 years, Deborah Lynn Booth; their Devoted Children, William J., Adam, Matthew, and Caroline; and Beloved Grandchild, Soraya Georgiana Hegarty.
Family and friends gathered for private graveside services at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, Maryland on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 10AM. Interment followed with a celebration of life held afterward at the Hegarty's home in Severn.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
