On the evening of Sunday, January 19th, 2025, the beloved Thomas “Tommy” Houser peacefully transitioned to a better place, leaving behind a legacy full of love, creativity, and deep connections with family and friends. He was born on March, 21st, 1978, in Washington D.C.
As a young child, Tommy grew up in the DC metropolitan area where he also attended school. Growing up he was a vibrant child who had many creative outlets such as listening to music, beatboxing, breakdancing, and telling jokes which he would continue to have a passion for in his later years. Tommy also spent a tremendous amount of time with his grandmother, Irene Cooks, growing up. He loved his grandmother dearly and learned a lot from her, one of the things he gained from her that he would continue to appreciate throughout life was his love for cooking.
Later on in life Tommy took his passion for music and forged a career for himself becoming a sound technician/ production theater and events technician, where he would enjoy setting up for musical shows and events. He was a very hardworking man and dedicated to his job as he loved every aspect of it. In his spare time, Tommy poured his heart into family. He took great pleasure in spending time with loved ones creating memories full of joy whether it would be him preparing a Nutritious and delicious meal for everyone, or simply just making them laugh as he knew that’s nature's best medicine.
Above all, Tommy was hardworking and dedicated to his family and career. He valued building meaningful relationships and took pride in the time he spent with those closest to him creating memories that will always be cherished. Tommy was a devoted partner, father, son, brother and friend. His beautiful soul will always be remembered and celebrated.
Tommy is survived by his long-time partner Melissa Smith; his children, Julia Gaines, Thomas Houser Jr, and Teshaun Owens, and his admired son through spirit Sean SmithWrick; his parents, Thomas Smith and Elizabeth Hairston; as well as his siblings, Briana Smith, Terrell Givens, Shelina Richardson, Yaya Hairston, Brianna P. Morrow, and Dartanyon Courtney. He is also mourned by a host of extended family and friends who will remember his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love.
Tommy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
