Dr. Milos Antonin Jansa joined our Lord and his wife of 56 years Fernande L. Jansa-Corboz in heaven on July 5, 2010. He was a devoted husband, father and pediatrician. He leaves his loving daughters Claire and Marianne Helen Jansa, his son-in-laws David Ackerly and charles smith, his cousins from the czech RepublicBozenka (Mila) Stajner, petr (Eva) stajner, and George Mach. He also leaves his
swiss brother-in-law Fredy (Rose-Marie) corboz, nephews Pascal (Dominique) Damon, Gerald (Marianne) corboz, Francois (Evelyne) corboz, and nieces Anne and sylvie.Dr. Jansa was born on May 10, 1923 in Hranice Czechoslovakia to Rudolf and vlasta
(Kalous) Jansa. He had one sister Vlasta who pre-deceased him.
From 1942 to 1945 Dr. Jansa worked as a volunteer in the clinical laboratory of the General Hospital in Hradec Kralove. After cessation of hostilities in 1945, he matriculated at the Charles university school of Medicine in Prague until 1948.
From the winter of 1948 to the summer of 1949 he matriculated at the Masaryk university college of Czechoslovak students in Exile. Shortly after the communist coup d'etat, Dr. Jansa was expelled from all studies because of his participation in anti-communist demonstrations and because of previous activity in anti-communist student organizations. He was then dismissed from the lab at the Ceskomorauska Kolben Danek plant, where he worked as a technician, when his past political activities were discovered. Later that year, he escaped into the u.s. zone of west Germany and stayed in different refugee camps for 6 months. Dr. Jansa was welcomed
into Switzerland where he graduated from the university of Geneva school of Medicine, interning there in Pediatrics from 1949 to 1953 and publishing two papers. This is where he met his future wife, the late Fernande L. corboz. He has never forgotten the generosity of the Swiss people.
Dr. Jansa immigrated to New York City on March 5, 1953. He had a one year internship at Bergen county Hospital in Paramus NJ. From 1954 to 1955 he was Assistant in Residency in Pediatrics at Queens General Hospital in Jamaica NY and was Chief of Pediatrics there from 1955 to 1956. Dr. Jansa served as captain in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 where he was chief of Pediatrics at the U.S. Army Hospital in Fort Bragg NC. He was an active member as well as past officer in the czechoslovak soclety of Arts and sciences. He was very proud of his u.s. citizenship, his service
in the military, and of his adopted country America.
Dr. Jansa started his 40 year pediatric practice in his home office in Landover Hills, MD in 1958. His office later moved to Lanham MD. He proudly cared for three generations of patients and closed his doors on December 31, 1999. He was extremely active in his retirement years spending winters fishing and shrimping in the Florida Keys, tending his vegetable garden in the summers along with fishing trips to Alaska and Canada. He had a keen interest and knowledge of Czech history. He lovingly cared for his wife as her health declined. Dr. Jansa made many sacrifices during his life, always took care of his family, and left his mark on this earth. He will be greatly missed.
