Jennifer, Valerie and Natalie: We are so sorry for your loss. Mick was such a great man whether it be as a husband, father, uncle, or friend. It sounded like his memorial service was a great celebration of his life with many funny and kind stories. He will be missed greatly by many people. Whether sitting in the Blue Lagoon with mud on his face and snow falling on his head or cruising around the Caribbean with salt water in his hair and sun on his face, Mike was never a "Wet Blanket" and was always fun to be around...  ..especially all the other times too when he was the only Guy with all the Gals.

I will always remember the fun times I had growing up with Uncle Mick; he was always looking for adventures, alligators on golf courses, playing jokes and bringing so much fun to all the times we got together. He was a big part of the Lucas family and a spark in all of our memories and will be terribly missed.

I've known Mr. Mike for as long as I can remember. He was a great friend to my parents and to all of us. I remember many summer cookouts, fourth of July fireworks, and even a little bit of Engineering career advice. He will be greatly missed.

I feel very lucky that Mr. Mike met my Dad on their first day of work (or so the family lore goes), because my life wouldn't be the same without the Lucases. Growing up with Val meant getting to paint on the the walls and floors, getting muddy in the stream while bushwhacking to Patapsco, and Mr. Mike trying to spook us with "alien" sounds on our backyard camping trips (we just giggled). There were so many other little adventures that shaped us into girls who knew we could do anything.

Once I left for college a trip home never felt complete without a visit to the Lucas home or an oversized game of Carcassonne. I'm really grateful to Mike  & Jennifer for raising awesome daughters who I am honored to have as my friends.  Jennifer, Val, Natalie, all my love and sympathy.

Mark and I are so very saddened to hear of Mike's untimely passing.  Jennifer, you and Mike were so important to us for the ten years we lived in Maryland.  You and the entire group of Westinghouse buddies were our family during those years when we were first married.  We cherish the memories of all those camping trips together.  Mike was a brilliant engineer, generous and funny co-worker, loving husband and father, and the world was made greater because he was with us.  We are honored and grateful to have known him. Mike, with his gentle smile, will be missed by family and friends.  Mike willingly went on our Girl Scout troop's camping trips and helped the girls make the best mountain pies.  The birdhouses that my daughters built with Mike's help are still in use. When we needed him, Mike was always there.  He was a loving husband and father and we will remember him with fond memories.

I am deeply saddened to learn that Mike has passed away. He was one of my best friends back in the old days at East Junior and East High School in Sioux City. We used to walk home together down the Ave, and stop in for a drink (usually a cherry phosphate or chocolate Coke) at the Cecelia Park Drug Store, to discuss life's tribulations along the way.

Mike was always the smartest guy in the room, but to his credit, if one did not really know him, his quiet self-confidence, inner strength and humility kept this talent hidden. I do not believe that at any other time in my entire career, I ever met another person as innately intelligent as Mike. Our lives pathways diverged after high school, and unfortunately as often happens with old friends, we lost touch. However, over the years I always remembered Mike was working out East for a major defense contractor; and being especially mindful of the continuous state of turmoil in the world, was always thankful he was on our side.

I am fortunate to have known Mike and to have been his friend. I extend my most sincere sympathy to the Lucas Family, and mourn with you in your loss.

Mike, we'll all miss you.  All of your friends and family were drawn closer together by your warmth, spirit, humor, and your caring. Like Steve W., we've been friends for nearly forty years and treasure our memories of the hiking, camping, skiing, and vacation adventures we've shared with you, Jennifer, and all the friends that have made our lives complete. Mike was the best. He was brilliant ( National Merit Finalist), and of great help to many at the SAE fraternity house. He always was done with his homework at least 2 hours ahead of the rest of us, and wanted to enjoy the rest of the evening.
Mike's disposition never went past being calm. He must have been a great contributor to technical developments at his work, as evidenced by his several patents. His employer and the USA were lucky to have him on defense contracts.
It is refreshing to read the memories being posted on Mike's guest book. While many miles have separated us since college days, Mike is still a best friend from middle school on. We are saddened by his passing, but happy to know that he had such a good life until his sickness came on him. He leaves a very nice family behind, and many fond memories, and will be missed by many. Mike and I were pledges together at the Iowa State U. chapter of SAE. Although I have not seen him since  graduation in 1974, I have fond memories of "Luke".  Very saddened by the news.

 Jennifer and Family,  I was deeply saddened by the news I received today about Mike.  He was a great guy, a wonderful student, and a joy to have in my High School Physics class.  He is the only one I ever had in my 30 years of teaching that NEVER missed a question or problem in any test or quiz that I gave. I have always believed in excellence and he gave it to me. Mike was a great friend for over 40 years.  We enjoyed the good times we had together  September birthday parties, cookouts, home-building projects, camping trips, Carcassonne games, travels abroad, and the sharing of major life events.  Mike left us with a lot of good memories.  He is and will be missed.

I had the privilege of knowing Mike through the SAE house at Iowa State.  We have lost one of God's best, brightest and kindest.

Our deepest sympathy to Jennifer, Valerie, and Natalie.  Jennifer, thank you for being a terrific, supportive wife to our brother.  You kept him going during the toughest of times. We are so glad he brought you into our family. Valerie and Natalie, I am so sorry that you lost your dad so soon.  He enjoyed you two so much.  I wish you would have had more time with him.  I feel such a deep sorrow for myself.  He left us way too early.  We had so much yet to do together--many more trips to take, scuba diving adventures, and I'm sure he had lots more advice to give me.

I will treasure all the good times we had together. It was a privilege to watch him grow from an infant to an accomplished young man to a husband and loving father. He never lost his sense of humor. We will miss him so much.

Val and I have been friends ever since MICA roomed us together our freshmen year at college. Your family took over when mine was too far away. You welcomed me in on easy weekends and multiple family holidays -- there was even a snow day! There's always plenty of advice, encouragement, and laughter with the Lucas family. And always something for me to learn! 
Val's dad (I had trouble calling him Mr. Lucas or Mike) pushed me to finally learn how to ride a bike. He had plenty of tips and ideas! But his belief that I could learn in one day meant I could not give up. Although with my anxiety, it took me much longer than expected, I did finally learn how to ride a bike years later. 
I am so thankful to have known him and so very lucky to have you all in my life.
