Michael Eric Carnes, aged 58, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2022, after complications from a radioactive spider bite that led to years of secret crime-fighting and a heroic battle with a nefarious criminal, the Big C.
Mike is survived by his beloved husband Randy S. Brauer, his closest partner in crime fighting Carolyn Kapustij, and many more friends and family in the States and Canada. He leaves behind a mountain of tchotchkes and collectibles, no doubt a final swing in the 25 year land war with Randy over closet space and clutter.
Mike was a proud civil servant with the United States Postal Service in Buffalo, New York, and after moving to Maryland in 2005 he served the Executive Office of the President of the United States and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission before retiring a few years ago.
Mike and Randy loved to travel, and together visited 40 States and more than 30 countries over the years, with all the T-shirts, shot glasses, brochures, and anything else you can imagine to prove it, somewhere in this house.
We will miss so many things about Mike. At the top of that list are his kindness, generosity, love, humor and bravery. We could think the Big C won the battle but we would be wrong. Mike lived his life on his own terms, surrounded by people who cared deeply about him, and he passed from this world knowing how much he was loved. Finally he can lay down his sword and rest.
Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating Mike’s life with a glass of wine and light refreshments at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, with the Celebration Service at 8:00pm. Tchotchkes, collectibles and T-shirts may be distributed at that time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Mike’s favorite charities, The Center for Great Apes (https://centerforgreatapes.org).
