Mary Margaret Thompson, age 100, of Catonsville, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Mary Margaret was a cherished member of St. Augustine Catholic Church whose devout faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served on numerous church committees and generously supported its endeavors.
Beloved wife of the late Arthur William Thompson; Loving mother of Teresa Thompson Yackley and husband Luke, Timothy Thompson and wife Janet Lydon, and Caroline “Connie” Colclough and husband Christopher; Cherished grandmother of Gregory Yackley (Becky), Julie Blue (Brad), Tim Yackley (Lena), Katie Moore, Claire Colclough (Fiancé Claude Moutome), Christie Yirak (Nick), Colleen Colclough, Chris Colclough (Joanna), and Conor Colclough (Teresa), and great-grandmother of Steven, Emily, Allison, Hannah, Kora, Estella, Justin, Bella, Lucy, Niko, Sophia, Micah, Clara, Francis, Catherine, Evan, Louis and Lucy; Dear sister of the late Juliana Brunk.
Beyond her dedication to her faith community, Mary Margaret found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid Pinochle player and crossword enthusiast, she relished the mental challenge of the New York Times puzzles. Her fondness for cats was apparent to everyone who crossed her path, and she took great joy in their companionship.
Sports also held a special place in her heart, particularly her loyalty to the Notre Dame Football team and her quiet admiration for the New York Yankees. A connoisseur of music, she reveled in the sounds of big band melodies and the soulful voice of Otis Redding, with favorite tunes including "It Had to Be You" and "Love Letters in the Sand".
Born a century ago, Mary Margaret witnessed the passage of time and history, having come into this world before sliced bread and women's suffrage. She marveled at modern technology, particularly the wonders of GPS navigation.
Travel was another passion of Mary Margaret's, whether it was annual trips to Ocean City with family, exploring the ancient wonders of Greece and Russia, or embarking on leisurely cruises across the seas. She enjoyed learning German and remembered her high school German classes fondly. She would often serenade loved ones with traditional German songs, showcasing her love for language and culture.
In remembrance of Mary Margaret, let us celebrate a life richly lived, filled with faith, love, and cherished memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
In honor of Mary Margaret's vibrant spirit and love for life, guests are kindly invited to wear yellow to her funeral, as it was her favorite color.
A Visitation for Mary Margaret will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, MD 21075. Burial will follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
