Dear Paula, Jack, Emily & family, When God created Mark Hardcastle,  He threw away the mold. He was one of a kind. He was generous,  kind, intellectual, intelligent, articulate,  humorous, faithful, loving and pragmatic. In his chosen vocation, he had a great reputation.  Mark was a man of impeccable character and he was without pretenses . He was who he appeared to be and he was down to earth. I thank God for the privilege of knowing Mark as a former neighbor and a brother in Christ at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.  I learned to appreciate Mark's dry sense of humor while we were two of the three Wise Men during our church's Christmas production --- Journey Through Bethlehem.  As a Director of the production in recent years, Mark was a leader and a servant. As a former President of the congregation, Mark was always a good listener, a consensus builder and very business-like. It has been said that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but rather by the moments that take our breath away. For Mark, those moments were too numerous to count. Rest in peace, my brother, until we meet again in Heaven!

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family .  I referred many clients to Mark and he always treated them with kindness , respect and superior trial  skills.  Mark was a true man of God. He stepped up to the plate to direct  Journey to Bethlehem.  He wrote the church Consititution and Bylaws and served as a wonderful President for many years. When I get to heaven someday, I want to hear WHAT THE Lord has already said to Mark: Well done, my good and faithful servant! 

I have been blessed by knowing Mark.  He was a remarkable person.  Smart, a leader and a servant.  It was a pleasure serving with him. 
 Thank you for letting him spend so much time serving at our church in various capacities.   He was instrumental in some of our biggest projects.  I valued his wise counsel when decisions had to be made.  He will be missed.

Please except my sincere condolences at the passing of Mark. He was always such a nice man… Sounds trivial, but he was really a nice person. He was always so proud of Jack and Emily. I always felt that he supported us at St. John’s and that meant much to all of us. Please count on my prayers for all of you during this time. May his memory bring much joy and comfort to all of you.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of my BEST childhood friend.  Many,  many memories of growing up at St. Matthew's in the same Sunday School classes and being confirmed together.  Ping pong, Phillies games, Walther League Plays, sleepovers, etc.  Even our own business together (see attached card).  How wonderful that the faith instilled through his grandfather (Pastor Berner) remained strong within his heart!  I look forward to a wonderful heavenly reunion.  HE IS RISEN!  INDEED!

Dear Paula, Jack, Heather, Emily, Clay, the grandchildren, and all in the Hardcastle clan, please accept my deepest sympathy in the sudden passing of Mark.  I am deeply, deeply saddened by this loss.  Mark was one of my best friends at Lehigh University.  The first time I met Mark was at an open house for those being "rushed" in the Emery House residence hall near the end of his freshman year.  When I asked Mark where he was from and his response was "King of Prussia," I thought he had misheard my question.  He hadn't!  Ironically, after graduate school, I ended up living in King of Prussia for 18 years and meeting people who knew the Hardcastles.  

There are so many Lehigh stories I could share.  I will limit myself to one.  Mark didn't like the essay questions that Professor Frakes posed on a literature test, so Mark drew up his own list of questions on a set of Bob Dylan lyrics he added as an attachment.  Needless to say he didn't fare well on the exam.  I  hope when Bob Dylan received the Nobel in Literature a few years ago that Mark remembered that exam and felt somewhat vindicated.

After graduation, I only saw Mark once in person.  It was Christmas break in '74 or '75, and we bumped into each other at the Sears store in KoP.  We had a great time catching up on the few years that had transpired since graduation.  Mark and I have shared a few messages on Facebook in the last couple of years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about his family and career.  It was no surprise to me that Mark was successful in his law practice.  Nor was the nature of the people and the causes he litigated on behalf of a surprise.  The least surprise of all would  be  that he was a devoted Christian and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.  The "promise" of the rich life he lived was a fulfillment of the quality of character I knew him for in college.  I pray you will be comforted by God's presence and hearts overflowing with rich memories.  Sincerely, David

I was completely saddened and shocked to hear about Mark.  Mark was the most outstanding lawyer that I knew.  Not only a lawyer but a friend.  May God be with him and his family.  Sincerely Tom Turpin
