On December 12th, 2024, Linda Hines Stevenson, age 73, of Relay, Maryland, transitioned to be with the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Bruce Stevenson, after suffering from a broken heart since his passing on April 6th, 2023.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 23rd, 1951 to the late Edward James Hines and late Doris Hines (nee Schnaitman), she was a fighter, defying the odds, 2-months premature and weighing just 3-pounds. She attended Salisbury State University, where she earned her Undergraduate Degree in Education. While studying at Salisbury, she met her soulmate, Bob. They were married at St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, on August 3rd, 1975. She taught in the Baltimore City School System until the birth of their daughter, Heather, in 1981.
Her love of teaching continued as she substituted in the classroom while Heather was in Elementary School. She later returned to Towson University, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology. She taught at Relay Elementary School for many years as a Library Media Specialist. She instilled her love of childhood books and passion for reading into each and every child. Her love for Relay Elementary extended beyond the school, and into her home. She and her husband, Bob, worked to restore their historic home, the original Relay Elementary School, built during the 1850s. She would incorporate lesson plans and hold field trips to their home, providing her students with an unforgettable and memorable learning experience.
Shortly after the birth of her grandson, Miles, in 2011, she retired and passed her library legacy onto the next generation. Her daughter, Heather, son-in-law, Mike, and grandson, Miles, will continue to carry out Linda and Bob’s dreams, by creating their own memories in the “Big ‘ole Schoolhouse,” where both Linda and Bob’s spirit reside.
Linda was the beloved wife of 49 years to the late Robert “Bob” Bruce Stevenson, mother and best friend to Heather Stevenson-LaMartina (Michael), beloved grandmother to Miles LaMartina; very close cousin of Marybeth Krebs (nee Kacher), and Marsha Kacher (nee Tarbert), godmother to Shannon Davis (nee Krebs), family and friend to many, and specially remembered by her cat, Flurry.
