John, more commonly known by friends and loved ones as Jack, was born on May 25, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY to Michael and Mary Hayes. He lived most of his life in Edison, NJ and will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his passion for New York sports, including the Giants, Mets, and St. John’s basketball, Dewars in a red wine goblet glass with a lot of ice, a nice Cabernet, olive oil with his bread, and keeping the pedal to the metal.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, son, John (Heather), granddaughters, Aly (Josh) and Jessica, and a loving extended family including his sister, Anna Nussbaum. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Hayes, brothers, Mickey and Jim Hayes, and sister, Mary Comunale.
Jack was a Sales Professional whose career was defined by his 37-year tenure with Thomasville Furniture Industries, where he was presented with the President’s Award in 1985 and 2004 and managed the metro New York territory. He will be remembered for his leadership, hard work, ingenuity, and the positive impact he had on the lives he touched.
There will be a viewing held in his honor on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD. There will be a memorial mass on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 9:30 AM at St. Augustine Church, located at 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, MD 21075. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Jack’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org).
