John Francis Haggerty, age 75, of Laurel, Maryland passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1949 in Pennsylvania to parents, John R. and Thelma Haggerty; Beloved husband of 41 years to Lucy Haggerty; Loving father of John Haggerty Jr. and his partner Jessica Farinholt, Daniel Haggerty and his wife Ann, Jennifer “Missy” Haggerty, and Michael Haggerty and his wife Ashley; Cherished grandfather of Katelyn, Mikayla, Bryan, Madison, Rosalyn, and Nadia Haggerty; Dear brother of Diane Amos and her husband George.
An avid golfer, John found joy on the course and collected golf balls from each of his favorite rounds. He was passionate about sports, proudly supporting the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Nationals. When he wasn't cheering for his teams, he could be found enjoying his favorite meals of shrimp and steamed crabs, often while listening to country music.
A proud veteran, John served in the U.S. Marines, exemplifying dedication and courage throughout his life. He devoted his career of 27+ years to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service retiring at the rank of Master Firefighter. After retirement, he worked as a Fire Code Consultant for the Montgomery County School Systems and served as an usher at the University of Maryland Collegiate Schools, where he made lasting connections with the community.
