Gloria Anna Nussear, nee Utz, passed from this life to be with her heavenly family on April 27, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Gilbert (“Bud”) William Nussear Sr. and her eldest son, Gilbert William Jr.
Gloria was born to Martha and John Utz and grew up in Hanover Maryland. She attended Glen Burnie High School. She later raised her own family in Hanover alongside her loving husband. Together they brought into this world Gilbert Jr. (Betsy), Michael (Janice), Rosemary Taylor (Kenneth), Patrick (Rosemary) and Suzanne (Steven Jacob). Gloria leaves behind many beloved grandchildren; Rebecca, Rachel, Kevin, Nicole, Kristen, Andrew, Kimberly, Brandon, Jarrod, Lauren, Stephanie, Matthew, Mark, Mary, and Juliet as well as many great grandchildren whom she enormously loved and cherished; David, Brooke, Seth, Paige, Emma, Charlotte, Kelsey, O’Reily, Reese, Kylie, Owen, Ava, Luke, Isabella, Dylan, Grant, Brooks, Kassidy. Gloria is the sister of the late John S. Utz and is also survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Utz, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Many summers she hosted “Camp Grandmom” for these same children, providing care, love, and nurturing during their time with her. She was a foster parent to six children throughout the 70’s and 80’s and relished her role as mother and caregiver.
Gloria enjoyed extensive traveling with her family both domestically and internationally. A favorite pastime included camping with her family. She especially found peace and happiness among the wildflowers of West Virginia, camping on the family property there. Gloria also enjoyed “snow-birding” together with Bud to their 2nd home in Davenport, Florida.
She was a prolific crafts person most notably creating crocheted afghans for all weddings, births, and special requests. She was an accomplished home economist, growing and preserving enough vegetables and fruits to last through the winter months. She enjoyed card and board games, puzzles of all sorts, making “monster cookies” with her family, country music concerts, and gardening.
She was often seen at school volunteering as class mom, substitute gym teacher, and library aide. She shared her love of camping and crafting as a girl Scout Leader, a call to Scouting she shared with her husband.
Gloria was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Community in Elkridge Maryland where she was married and baptized her children.
