Abiola - 

I am so grateful that our paths crossed for a few short months at the Church of the Incarnation. You were so warm and kind, and for the short time we knew each other I was so glad to be your “Pastor”. I’ll miss your presence in our congregation in Ann Arbor. Thank you for being a light to so many. Rest well.

I’m devastated & my heart will never be the same. You were my person & you always made sure I was good. I will never forget, when I learned to make Nigerian food for you. I was so worried about getting it right. You loved my Jollof rice & goat so much, I felt relieved. I couldn’t make a video without you popping in the video to make your presence known.  Everytime we went out, you made sure we were color coordinated lol. I loved styling. I just saw you month & half ago. If I knew that was going to be my last time seeing YOU, I would have spent even more time with you. I would have made it super special. It was always PARTY NO DEY STOP! My Papa Alaka I love you so much & this hurts bad. Everyone who knows us knows how much WE meant to each other. We talked everyday & FaceTimed. I was coming up last weekend to see u so we could go to another game. Everytime I came up u would lay out the red carpet. Plan the best dates, love on me, admire me, & take random pictures of me. U truly loved me & showed me that love. U were one of the best doctors that I knew. I’m glad I let you know how much I loved you & how much you meant to me. I’m glad I would put your spirit at ease. You would always tell me, how much I make your day talking to me. That I calm your spirit. Papa Alaka I love you so much. You took a piece of my heart with you. Sleep in peace my love, I can’t phantom any of these feelings. Anytime you couldn’t come with me some where u would say, we will do that in the future don’t worry Lo. Now time is up & we didn’t get to do those things. So many memories we created, I know it was a purpose for us to be apart of each other’s lives. We would always say, thank God for allowing us to cross paths we needed each other. Without a doubt I’m glad that we were able to pour into each other, the way we did. I will never forget you nor the times we shared. To lose the man you truly love is so indescribable. Until we meet again my love, forever and always your Big LO.

Dear Abiola, I so clearly remember the first time we met. Your energy, passion for life and joyous laughter were inspiring. Moreover you viewed your surroundings with a deep intellectual appreciation that was unique. Your incredible dedication to care for others, particularly those less fortunate, was an integral part of your being. You stood for fairness and equality in all of your actions. I will miss your enthusiasm, joyous smile, compassion and selfless ways.  Peace my friend, you were loved by many and will never be forgotten.

Dear Abiola,

The last time we spoke, which was only a few weeks before your death, you gave me a hug. Thank you for being who you are.

I have always appreciated your warmth, kindness, and steadiness in the face of adversity. To me, you have always been as reliable as an old oak tree that moves gently with the wind, no matter how strong, never falling over. 

When I first heard of your passing, I remembered that you came to us, alone, to be a doctor. You made it. All of us are so proud of you. 

It hurts to know that you left so soon. I wish we all had more time to learn many more great things from you. 

I promise not to forget.

Abiola and I learned to be doctors together--sitting side-by-side as we put in our first orders and sweating about how much Tylenol we could safely give our patients. He was a dear friend who's devotion to his patients was exceeded only by that to his family and friends. He doted on my children, even dropping a gift for our baby on our front step late at night when he didn't want to wake us. His smile lit up every room he entered and was irresistibly contagious. It is so hard to believe I will not get to see it again. You will be sorely missed, Dr Alaka.

My dear friend, I was beyond shocked to learn of your passing just two days ago. We don’t speak too often but whenever we did, it was  like time never passed. I can’t believe this is goodbye. What happened? Why do good people leave so early? Too many questions but I will remember you as the ever loving, giving, cheeeful and caring  person I had the privilege of meeting. You made my stay at FIU beautiful, and I thank you so much.  I wish you lived super long to reap the benefits of years of hardwork.  Adieu my friend. Rest well, and may God comfort your family.

You are warrior who believed in achievement, a lovely brother, a kind soul who who love everyone around him, although is being long time i spoke to you but every little time we spent together is a great memory. sleep well AAA .

I will fondly remember the days in the residency workroom when Abiola would break out his music speaker to make the days more bearable. He'd always brighten the room with his playlists, songs which will have a different meaning now. May he rest in peace.

It is with heavy heart that I write this. Rest well Dr Abiola Ahmed Alaka. You have undoubtedly impacted lives in the little time you spent on earth.

I pray God grants his family ; especially his mum ,the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

My deepest condolences 🙏🏽  to the family.  My sister took you under her wings as a Medical Student, then introduced you to our family and I instantly knew why. Although, we only met once, I remember your Beautiful Spirit.
