Wayne was the beloved husband of Kathleen S. Mathias, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Kelley Walters and her husband Donald, David Mathias and his wife Sarah, and Amy Daras and her husband Mark. He was a proud grandfather to Hannah, Caleb, Samuel, Tyler, Brooke, and Chase.
Wayne is also survived by his step-sister Betty Lee Schaefer, and was preceded in death by his brother, William Mathias.
Wayne was a man of many passions. He had a lifelong love of horse racing, a keen eye for antiques, and enjoyed countless hours browsing antique shops. He loved puzzles like word searches, playing cards, trying his luck at the casino, and cheering on the Baltimore Orioles.
A true Marylander, he never passed up a good plate of steamed crabs, and he found joy in simple pleasures like Twinkies, pretzels, candy, scratch-off tickets, Diet Coke, and collecting beer cans. He also had a great appreciation for buses, trains, travel, and a good drive on the open road. Wayne worked in the magazine and book industry for close to 50 years.
Wayne will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
