A beautiful woman of faith, Virginia “Ginny” L. Pierce, passed away quietly with her family at her side, on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Cherry Hill Haven in Williamsburg. Virginia was born on November 9, 1929 in Millington, Michigan to Thomas and Wanetta (Kenny) Jolly.
She was raised as a farm girl in Millington, and graduated high school there in 1947. On June 30, 1951 she married Thomas H. Pierce. After they married, they moved to Indiana for a short time while he completed his college education then quickly back to Michigan. During her husband's course of employment, the family moved countless times, she was always efficient in settling the household which included not only having all rooms set up and organized, but pictures back on the walls by the end of “move day". They enjoyed new friends and conversations wherever they went, and often entertained at corporate functions and holiday celebrations. She loved a celebration and could turn any day into one.
Ginny worked as a bank teller in Vassar for a period of time, and held the responsibilities of maintaining the families finances. They had vacationed on Torch Lake bayou for over 30 years and then retired there for another 25 before she moved to Samaritas Senior Living and then on to Cherry Hill Haven.
Tom and Ginny enjoyed 59 happy years together, and were a wonderful example to their children of a long and loving marriage. Ginny enjoyed time with her family and friends; whether if it was just for a simple walk enjoying the beauty of nature, dinner, drinks, or boat rides down the river. She was the perfect side-kick to her husband executing several pranks on friends over the years. Her quick wit and sense of humor endeared her to all who met her. “Cheers” was one of her favorite words. She was also a long time member of the Alden United Methodist Church.
She especially loved being able to spend time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life when they came to stay. Lest us not forget her dogs as well, as she regarded them in high rank amongst the family members. Every dog was her favorite.
Ginny is survived by her children, Sue (Patrick) Kelly, and Thomas (Mary Beth Kazanski) Pierce; her two rays of sunshine grandchildren, Ryan Kelly and Georgia Pierce, and one sister Esther “Sammie” Adams. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Alden United Methodist at 11:00 am, with family gathering at the church at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Dan Biteman officiating.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Kalkaska County Animal Shelter or Hospice of Michigan.
