Vera P. Campbell

Vera P. Campbell, age 101, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the home of her niece, Nancy Gray in North Muskegon, Michigan. She was born on September 16, 1912 in Hawkins, Michigan, to parents Elmer and Edna (Packard) Hatch. She was the oldest of 8 children, all of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and worked as a secretary for the Muskegon Board of Realtors. She married Justus (Jim) Balcom on August 8, 1933. They resided in the Muskegon area and he passed away on September 11, 1956. She married Alex Campbell on December 2, 1963, and she moved to the South Torch Lake area where she resided until her death. Alex preceded her in death on April 27, 1995. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 9, in Muskegon. Vera was blessed with a very large extended family and she remained in close contact with all of them into her late 90’s. Despite impaired vision and hearing, she lived independently until the last 3 months of her life. She will be missed by many friends, acquaintances, and family members.

A funeral service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Covell Funeral Home, 312 Pine St., Elk Rapids MI 49629. The family will receive visitors at 10 am prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 9 or your local Hospice organization.
