John C. "Jay" Steed

John C. “Jay” Steed, age 88 of Elk Rapids passed away on March 14, 2015 at home. Loving husband of 31 years to Catherine. Father of Loretta Steed, Robert (Diane) Steed, Kate (David) King and Nan (David Yeck) Cardella. Grandfather of 6 and several great grandchildren. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Brother of Glenn (Judy) Steed. Preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and one sister. Jay began his love for flying when he earned his wings as a cadet in the USAF. He served during the Korean War and lived in Japan for 2 years. He became a commercial pilot for Delta Airlines; retiring after 31 years of service. Jay took great pride in owning his own Cessna 182, traveling the United States with his wife, Catherine. He was also known for his love of woodworking and poetry, which he also recited. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions made to Wings of Mercy; Michigan and Sacred Heart Church,Elk Rapids are appreciated.
