She was born September 19, 1932 in Kewadin, Michigan, to Cecil and Velma (Bussa) Goodman. Emily graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1950. She married Dale Dillon on January 6, 1951.
Emily was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church. She loved to paint and there are many treasured oil paintings hanging in her family’s homes. During the hectic years of raising a large family, Emily and Dale made sure to save every Saturday night for square dancing. In retirement, Emily loved to sit on the deck with her dog, Coda, on her lap and a glass of wine in her hand, watching the ducks and swans float by.
Emily is survived by her loving husband Dale Dillon, her sons, Mike (Christi), Marty, Kim (Michele), Kelly (Colleen), Kirk (Mati), Mitch (Diane); her daughters, Kris (Richard) Dillon-Weathers, Karen (John) Baker, Karel (Doug) Madsen; 29 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Emily is also survived by brothers, Allen (Louise) Goodman, Roger (Linda) Goodman and sister-in-law Peggy (Stanley) Goodman.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Velma Goodman, her brothers Larry Goodman and Stanley Goodman.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, November 15 beginning at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. A Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will begin at 11 a.m. with Reverend Robert J. Zuchowski presiding. He will be assisted by Deacon Stephen Bussa. A luncheon will follow the Mass at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Committal will be at Yuba Cemetery.
Holding a fresh baked apple pie, with a crust made for the angels, Emily passed through the gates of Heaven, into the welcoming arms of her family. Those of us left behind will hunger after that pie till our time has come.
